How the Royals Survived the Revolution
Description
36×48 inches, acrylic and metallic leaf on canvas
Artist’s personal collection.
Amidst the architectural landmarks of Paris, the faces of the royal cards; and a few number cards appear against a deep blue night sky. The pun, if you will, is “they became cards!” I had discovered that the paintings of faces in the stained glass windows relied on a formula for indicating the three dimensionality for features such as the chin, the lower lip, etc. And that was later used in the faces of the royal cards. So it’s all about history…and of course as time went on, the full figures ceased and only the heads remained…a chilling aspect of the revolution.
