Fête à la Cocteau circa 1938
Description
48×48 inches, acrylic and metallic leaf on canvas
After seeing Jean Cocteau’s “La Belle et la Bête” in high school, I was never the same. The cinematic experience struck a deep chord that continues to vibrate. There is a sense of ancient Greek art and literature, medieval England and France, Chateaus where arms come out of the walls bearing candelabra, and so much more. The trees sprout musical instruments, and the chess pieces march across an open clearing. Who goes here?
