Combined Media

I sometimes find that one medium may lack a certain “sparkle” or intensity, or subtlety, and I reach for another medium in the studio that will fulfill that need. I used to be very aware of a step by step program of application, but now I just fire away, knowing that solvents and varnishes can make “all things possible.” It’s a lot like cooking, really…like when to add spices and such…it’s going “with the flow!”

Collage adds a three dimensional element. Sometimes I find this desirable, but most often not. In combined media, especially with wood as a support or added elements, it can really be adventurous. It can tend toward sculpture, really, but the downside is that it is more difficult to store and transport.
