This is an introduction and presentation designed to encourage those who would like to play a pipe organ to try it. Peter demonstrates how he is learning to play the historic 1924 Midmer Losh 17-rank pipe organ housed in the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Tampa. He explains why this wind instrument differs from the piano (string), and is a “vertical” concept rather than “linear.” This is a deliberately laid back “hands on” video about how the pipe organ can produce “heavenly” sounds resonating with vibrations which can be woven into a magnificent musical tapestry. Topics covered are stops, ranks, manuals, pedals, dynamics–which make this a most complex yet versatile and exciting instrument. Mozart called it “the king of instruments”!
